„The Winter Journey“ one of the peaks of the romantic music of F.Schubert

Montpellier Dance Festival

Monday 1st, Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd July 8pm

Location: Opera Berlioz / Le Corum

„The discovery of Winterreise brings Angelin Preljocaj to live a bodily and sonorous journey, a metaphor for death. For the first time, the choreographer creates a ballet for the artists of the Alla Scala Theater in which the emotions aroused by the music develop resonances with the dance. “

A delicate and dense choreographic writing, a magical trio between pianoforte, song and dance: with Winterreise, Angelin Preljocaj amazed the audience of Montpellier Danse on Monday, giving his enchanted vision of Franz Schubert’s Winter Journey, a summit of romanticism.

Of the 24 songs that tell a slow journey to winter – symbolizing death – of a man wounded by an unrequited love, Preljocaj imagined a choreographic writing for 12 dancers, released Saturday of his ballet.

Subtle worn, torn elk contrasting with the immobility of death and winter, the lyricism of the choreography of Preljocaj mingles with the harmonious and serious singing of the Austrian bass baritone Thomas Tatzl and the desperate accents of the pianoforte of James Vaughan bringing the emotion of spectators to a climax.
